Child of Wonder

Child of Wonder is the third in a series of Christmas albums to provide new songs with which to worship Jesus Christ (not just tell His story), as we celebrate that He chose to be born. This has been the most difficult album to date. He let me wait for months on His lyrics. There were delays in its completion due to a second thyroid cancer surgery. Vocally, I continue to rebuild following these surgeries. As a result, these songs have been worshiped to more than any others, prior to an album’s completion. Sung over and over, as I rehearsed them while driving thousands of miles on backroads through Northern California’s Gold Country, always, always inviting more of Him into our midst as I did.

Child of Wonder features five original songs and six traditional carols, including “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” This is one of the only traditional carols calling us to adore Jesus. Thus, instead of ending the song where you expect, it seemed important to add music at the end to actually adore Him. As we were gathered in March 2016 at The Creation Lab, doing the initial recording (tracking) of the first instruments, skilled drummer Brandon Davis transitioned us to this new part. As he did, I saw the heavens open above us in the studio and multitudes of those already in God’s throne room were worshiping and cheering with us that the Lord was being honored and adored in this way. It made me want to weep. Heaven joining with us here and now in the worship of the King who always was, came, is and is coming again!!

With His birth, our lives remain changed forever. He broke in. Heaven invaded earth as He invites us back to heaven. The door is open because Jesus is the Door. This is why He is and remains the only Gift which matters. We are not destined to die here, but to fly to Him. He reconciled us with Father in a way we could never do for ourselves. Together let us worship this Child of Wonder, here with us now and forevermore. All hail, King Jesus!
